Koro-sensei’s scream tore through the building, reverberating off the sterile walls and echoing down every corridor like a wounded animal’s cry. The students froze, eyes widening in collective shock. They’d never heard their teacher make such a sound—raw and unfiltered pain. Before anyone could react, they heard it again, somehow more intense than before.
They surged forward as one, rushing toward the surgery room, only to find Karasuma blocking their path, his muscular frame an immovable barricade.
“Don’t come in yet,” he warned, voice firm but tinged with concern. “The plaque is still displayed. Master Lynn always puts it up when he’s working with drug compounds that require complete focus. It could be dangerous for us to enter now.”
The students exchanged worried glances but respected Karasuma’s instruction. They huddled in the hallway, a nervous energy pulsing through them as they waited.
The antiseptic smell of the medical facility seemed to grow stronger with each passing moment, mingling with an unidentifiable chemical scent that wafted from beneath the surgery room door.
“Is this what Karasuma-sensei meant when he said that Commander Lynn could kill Koro-sensei if he wanted to?” Nagisa whispered, his voice barely audible.
Karma’s eyes narrowed. “It’s possible, Nagisa…”
A third scream, more harrowing than the previous two, made them all flinch. Then, abruptly, the lights in the room flickered and went out.
The door creaked open, and Koro-sensei emerged, his round face noticeably brighter and more relaxed than before.
Despite the evident exhaustion in his posture—his normally upright tentacles now drooping slightly—he greeted everyone with renewed vigor.
“Nurufufufu! Hello, everyone! No need to look so concerned!”
The stark contrast between his agonized screams and current cheerfulness only intensified their worry.
“This girl with green hair and the boy with white hair got the tentacles before, right?” Lynn asked unexpectedly, emerging from the shadows of the room.
His clinical gaze swept over the assembled students, lingering on the two he’d mentioned.
They all nodded hesitantly.
Without a word of explanation or warning, Lynn moved with startling speed. His hand was a blur as he administered the same pill he had given Koro-sensei to both students.
The effect was instantaneous—twin screams pierced the air, their bodies convulsing as they collapsed to the floor.
“What the hell did you do to them?” Karma demanded, whipping out his anti-sensei knife and pointing it threateningly at Lynn.
His eyes blazed with protective fury as Nagisa and the others rushed to comfort their writhing classmates.
In a motion too quick to follow, Karma’s knife vanished from his hand. The redhead stared at his empty palm in disbelief.
“Calm down,” Lynn said, his voice level and detached, as if he were discussing the weather rather than the suffering of two teenagers.
He tucked Karma’s confiscated weapon into his lab coat pocket. “There are still pieces of antimatter in their bodies from their previous exposure. If we don’t act quickly, it could evolve into a far more serious condition. Since they can’t manipulate their bodies like an octopus, removing the antimatter immediately is the safest option.”
“Thank you, Nurufufu,” Koro-sensei interjected, his tentacles gently patting the heads of the suffering students. “Your help is invaluable.”
Lynn’s expression softened marginally. “Don’t worry. I still feel responsible for their condition. It was my mistake to leave things this way.”
They waited in tense silence as the screams gradually subsided to whimpers, then to labored breathing. Lynn knelt beside the students, checking their vital signs with practiced efficiency.
“Hmm, the white-haired one is stable,” he observed, his fingers pressing against the boy’s wrist. “But the green-haired one still needs another tablet tomorrow. She also has some injuries that require different medication. I’ll provide the additional drugs tomorrow.”
He turned to Koro-sensei, his tone becoming more instructional. “Octopus, ensure she fully digests this tablet before administering the next one.”
“Alright, Doctor,” Koro-sensei agreed, then added hesitantly, “But perhaps you could treat them more… normally? Like informing them before administering medication?”
Lynn waved a dismissive hand. “This way is faster and less of a hassle…” He glanced at his watch. “Anyway, I still have a meeting with the Speedwagon Foundation. I’ll leave unless there’s something else…”
As Lynn prepared to depart, Ritsu’s digital face appeared on the classroom monitor, her expression excited. “Koro-sensei, I found information about the man named Brook!”
“Excellent, Ritsu,” Koro-sensei encouraged.
“Based on my research, the most recent details about Brook come from a manga called One Piece. He is a—”
Lynn froze mid-step. The air around him seemed to still as a notification—one he hadn’t seen in thirty years—appeared in his mind’s eye:
[Congratulations on finding the information regarding the main world. The reward will be given once you’ve gathered all the information currently available in the simulated world.]
A violent tremor ran through Lynn’s body. Something was wrong with the world—had always been wrong—but he couldn’t articulate exactly what.
The realization that his reality might be fundamentally flawed sent cold sweat beading on his forehead. He’s already know about the manga called One Piece, but once he searched for them in the past, none could be found. The previous conversation about the mysterious world and animation appeared to be missing from this world.
His sudden silence was jarring. Koro-sensei, Karasuma, and Gakuha called his name repeatedly, their voices growing increasingly concerned, but Lynn remained lost in thought, his eyes unfocused as if seeing beyond the physical room.
Karasuma watched Lynn closely, knowing that the doctor had never encountered anything related to One Piece before.
This was the first time Lynn was actively searching for someone named Brook. Karasuma had often wondered about this but never directly questioned Lynn. He recalled a coworker in intelligence mentioning directives to locate specific individuals, complete with detailed sketches.
“I see…” Lynn finally said, his voice distant as he emerged from his trance. He turned to Karasuma, suddenly decisive. “Buy every One Piece book and volume available. Immediately.”
“Oh, is that really the person you’re looking for?” Koro-sensei inquired, tentacles wiggling with curiosity.
“I don’t know yet; I need to read them first,” Lynn answered, his typical clinical detachment returning. “Thank you.” He nodded to both Ritsu and Koro-sensei before departing.
Leaving the hillside classroom behind, Lynn made his way to the waiting car that would take him to the Speedwagon Foundation’s Japanese branch. As the vehicle navigated through evening traffic, the city lights blurring past the window, Lynn found himself grappling with an existential question:
“What’s happening to me?” he whispered to himself, fingers pressed against his temple. “This game-like interface in my mind feels real, not imagined. Does this mean I’m living in some kind of… dream?”
The sudden realization about the nature of his reality made him question everything around him—the leather seat beneath him, the cool air from the car’s vents, the muted sounds of the city beyond the window. Despite the disorientation, he forced himself to focus on immediate concerns.
“Master Lynn,” the chauffeur called, interrupting his thoughts. “The books have been purchased. Where would you like to read them?”
Lynn straightened, composing himself. “Have them delivered to the Speedwagon base. I’ll read them on my return journey.”
When they arrived, Lynn exited the car with his briefcase and walked purposefully toward the designated meeting room. As he moved through the hallways, his mind raced with speculation about Brook’s abilities and why the intelligence department had failed to locate information about him.
‘If this is truly some kind of game interface,’ he thought, ‘I need to gather all available information. Perhaps exploring data about games and manga would provide better insight into my situation.’
Deep in contemplation, Lynn barely noticed when he reached the meeting room. He opened the door to find Kujo Joutaro waiting for him, the man’s imposing figure silhouetted against the window, his signature cap casting a shadow over his intense eyes.
“Mr. Lynn,” Joutaro acknowledged, his deep voice filling the room. “Thank you for accepting our invitation.”
“Pleased to help, Mr. Kujo Joutaro,” Lynn replied with a slight bow.
“I’m aware of the potential threat posed by the alien being,” Joutaro began, his expression unreadable. “However, we’re also facing another dangerous situation that requires your expertise. I hope you can assist us in identifying the owner of this body.” He gestured for Lynn to follow him to the facility’s morgue.
The morgue was cold, the metallic scent of preservative chemicals hanging in the air.
Joutaro led Lynn to a covered body and pulled back the sheet, revealing injuries unlike anything Lynn had encountered before.
“This corpse presents peculiarities,” Joutaro explained, pointing to the unusual wounds. “What kind of weapon could inflict such deep, clean cuts while preserving the body’s overall shape? According to the report, the individual died in a car accident, yet the body appears to be severed in an unnatural manner. The pathologist determined the time of death accurately, but there’s a discrepancy we can’t explain.”
Lynn leaned closer, examining the body with clinical precision. His extensive experience in pathology—the field dedicated to understanding diseases and their effects on living organisms—allowed him to recognize the anomalies immediately.
Despite his broad medical background and military experience, he had never encountered this type of death before.
“Mister Kujo,” Lynn said slowly, “I understand your concerns. These wounds are… unprecedented.”
“Yes, sir,” Joutaro responded, his stoic expression betraying the faintest hint of concern. “In America, our options are limited despite our knowledge. Your assistance would be invaluable. My connections might prove useful to you in return.”
“Thank you, doctor. I would appreciate the opportunity to meet my daughter.”
Lynn agreed to arrange a meeting with Miss Jolyne at Green Dolphin prison. After finalizing the details with Kujo, he left the building, his mind racing with new questions.
When he reached his car, he found the One Piece books neatly stacked on the seat. He immediately began reading, eagerly flipping through character profiles and examining illustrations.
As the car navigated through nighttime traffic, Lynn instructed his driver to cancel all appointments for the week. He would dedicate himself entirely to this research.
According to Ritsu’s information, Brook’s appearance in the manga occurred some distance from the beginning of the series. Nevertheless, Lynn absorbed every new detail, finding them invaluable compared to what he had previously learned from the Rumbar Pirates.
Though parts of the manga remained incomplete, Lynn anticipated that these gaps would be filled in future storylines.
Having spent time in the New World with the Rumbar Pirates, Lynn noted discrepancies between the manga’s timeline and his own experiences, particularly regarding Gold Roger. The dissonance only deepened his confusion about his place in this reality.
As Lynn finished the final chapter he was reading, a notification appeared in his mental interface:
[Congratulations on acquiring the most up-to-date information! You will receive the reward for completing the mission.]
[You’ve unlocked the Inventory function.]
The illumination from the notification cast an eerie blue glow across his face as Lynn contemplated what this new development might mean for his understanding of the world—and himself.
