Chapter 5: [Voyage] – Every story had an end, thus a new beginning shall started
Bang. Smash. Crack.
“This orphan brat has the nerve to rank higher than me? Orphan, know your place!”
Kick. Punch.
“Let’s beat him up even more. With all those wounds, there’s no way he can still study.”
“Okay, let’s just beat him up.”
“Hey, I found this suspicious-looking mushroom over there. Let’s get him to eat it. Poisoning him will definitely make him dumber!”
“Gyahahaha, yes, you give it to him!”
Lynn couldn’t help but stare at the mushroom the bullies tried to force him to eat, even after they had knocked him out. He put his hand over his mouth, trying to protect his vital organs.
This was his daily reality—getting hit and teased relentlessly. He had chosen to attend a prestigious school, hoping to meet interesting people and escape his past, but it came with its own set of challenges.
Unlike the jerk picking on him now, there were powerful people with real lives around them, people he could never hope to defeat. If someone in their family found out that Lynn had fought back, the consequences would be dire. He wanted to beat these jerks up, but all he really cared about was protecting his sister.
“If I can finish this school, my life will be better. And those debt collectors wouldn’t dare come inside this school, so I should be safe here,” Lynn thought.
Even though the bullies could beat him up whenever they wanted, it wasn’t nearly as bad as what the debt collectors would do. So he endured it.
But he never imagined they would try to poison him with a mushroom that looked like a flash drive covered in moss.
Despite the beatings, Lynn still managed to maintain high enough grades to keep his scholarship. Many teachers were aware of the bullying but despised the genius who could get good grades without even trying. They pretended not to notice the bullying, hoping it would force him to quit.
Since one of the bullies spat on him while his mouth foamed from the mushroom, they left him there, unconscious and abandoned.
He didn’t remember what happened next, but when he opened his eyes, he was on the Rumbar Pirates’ ship.
“I wonder, what is this fruit…”
Lynn was curious about the Devil Fruit that no one could bite into. Though it was right there, he still wouldn’t eat it.
Since they had sailed two years ago, Lynn’s growth had mysteriously halted. No one knew if his Eastern genes had run their course or if something strange was happening to his body. Lynn was 16 years old—a time when growth shouldn’t have stopped—but he had ceased growing taller at 165 cm, well short of Brook.
He couldn’t help but sigh, regretting the cowardly decisions he had made before finding himself stranded in the middle of the sea. In hindsight, Lynn understood that even if he had dropped out of school, there were other schools that would have allowed him to study and work simultaneously. Schooling wasn’t his only option, and the debt collectors would have continued to harass his sister while she worked outside.
The bullying had clouded his judgment, and he had forgotten to consider all his options. Now, with time to reflect, he saw multiple ways he could have handled the situation. Though it wasn’t clear how safe Japan was for such matters, there was no reason he couldn’t have confronted the debt collectors.
It wasn’t as if his father had left behind a massive debt; the amount owed shouldn’t have made the creditors so impatient. They were already receiving payments every month.
“My sister’s pay can only cover the interest. Huh, so those loan sharks must have offered her a way out… I hope she doesn’t get hurt…”
Lynn sighed, realizing he might not only be a sea away but also in a different dimension.
“This can’t be Earth, and I don’t know where the hell I am!”
“Attack! We’re being attacked!”
Lynn snapped out of his thoughts at the sudden shout. Since he was in the storage area, people began rushing in and out, grabbing cannon shells.
Boom! Boom!
The enemy ship was hit repeatedly, but its massive size absorbed most of the impact. Despite having no cannons, it was clear they intended to get close and board the Rumbar Pirates’ ship.
Lynn, understanding the situation, headed to the quarterdeck to get a better view of what was happening.
“Doc, watch out! Even though they don’t have cannons, they’ve got guns on top of the ship. They’re trying to hit us!”
“Understood!”
At this point, Lynn had surpassed Brook in terms of strength. After training with Brook for two and a half years, his skills were now on par with his teacher’s. However, there were some things even his intelligence couldn’t overcome, like the sheer physical power of a man over 2 meters tall.
Now, Lynn was not only a doctor but also a skilled pirate who had killed many others and developed more expertise than most of the crew. He could deflect bullets with his sword more easily than Brook could command the crew. As Claude ensured he had all the medicine he needed, he couldn’t help but gulp at the sight of the approaching ship.
The enemy’s eyes were filled with madness, and the unknown flag couldn’t help but send a shiver down his spine.
The attackers leaped from their ship, swinging their blades and shouting. They didn’t wait for a bridge and the shooting ceased, possibly due to a lack of bullets or to avoid hitting their comrades.
As the enemies swarmed in, Lynn quickly realized they were high on drugs.
“They’re high! Watch out for anything that could kill you!” Lynn yelled to one of his teammates, who understood immediately. But it was too late.
When Brook saw his crew being poisoned, he lost control and went on a rampage, slaughtering enemies left and right. Seeing more attackers coming, he jumped onto the enemy ship.
While Brook fought furiously, Lynn rushed around to tend to the injured. Fortunately, no one died in the attack, and Brook managed to kill all the enemies, though he returned with wounds of his own.
“How is it, can you heal them, Lynn?” Brook asked, his body covered in blood and a wound on his side still bleeding.
“I’m trying to figure out this poison, but I can’t find anything with the same properties… What the hell is this?” Lynn muttered as he examined the pale crewmates, his anxiety mounting. He scoured the ship and the storage area for a cure, but people began developing high fevers, their bodies growing colder by the minute.
Despite his frantic efforts, Lynn couldn’t find an antidote. The situation grew increasingly dire, and as panic set in, the crew exchanged glances and nodded.
“Cap’n…”
“Ah… I know…”
Brook understood what they meant just by looking at them. Lynn was the only one who wasn’t poisoned. They had to let him go.
Brook stood up, vomiting blood as he slowly approached Lynn, who was frantically flipping through a medical book, trying to find a cure.
“Lynn… it’s time for us to part.”
“No, Teacher! I can save them, I can s-still save you!”
“Lynn!”
“Teacher! Just give me more time, I can do it! I don’t want to part like when Captain Yorki left the crew!”
Punch!
Brook’s punch landed on Lynn’s cheek, sending him sliding across the deck. Lynn stared at Brook in shock.
“We’re finished. Our journey ends here…”
“I… I…”
“You’re different from us, Lynn. You still have someone waiting for you. So please, let us depart here and let’s share a goodbye party…”
“Cough! Right, little doctor! Let’s have a party before we part with each other!” Barbaro said, clutching the wound on his stomach.
Tears streamed down Lynn’s face as he looked at his comrades. For 30 months, they had been together, facing trials and sharing the same destination.
Before he realized it, an instrument had started playing in the background. Someone had begun playing the bass and violin without anyone noticing.
“Let’s sing Binks’ Sake then!” Lynn said as he picked up the bass and pointed to the piano for Brook.
Smiling at the gesture, Brook slowly moved to the piano and cracked his fingers.
“Prepare your necessities, Lynn! Barbaro, help Lynn lower the emergency boat. Let’s have our last song, zombies!”
“Ouuu!”
Splash!
Yohohoho, yohohoho. Yohohoho, yohohoho.
Yohohoho, yohohoho. Yohohoho, yohohoho.
Binks no sake wo todoke ni yuku yo. Umikaze kimakase namimakase.

“Take care, Lynn!”
“Thanks for all your care, little doctor!”
“I hope we don’t meet soon!”
Binks no sake wo todoke ni yuku yo. Warera kaizoku umi watteku.

yohohoho, yohohoho
yohohoho, yohohoho
yohohoho, yohohoho
yohohoho, yohohoho
As the last notes of “Binks’ Sake” echoed across the ocean, the Rumbar Pirates’ ship sailed on, empty and silent. The once lively vessel, filled with laughter, music, and camaraderie, was now a haunting reminder of the crew’s final moments.
Lynn’s tears streamed down his face as he watched the ship grow smaller and smaller in the distance. He struggled to leave the small boat he was in, but Brook, with his remaining strength, had shoved him into it, preventing him from making any rash decisions. Before Lynn could protest, Brook forced a strange fruit into his hands and, with a firm but gentle push, made him eat it.
The fruit’s taste was indescribable, a mix of bitterness and sweetness, but Lynn swallowed it down, not fully understanding its significance. Brook’s intentions were clear, though. He knew the dangers Lynn would face alone on the sea, and giving him a Devil Fruit—though it meant losing the ability to swim—was a desperate attempt to ensure his survival.
As the effects of the fruit began to take hold, Lynn’s vision blurred, but not from tears this time. His body felt strange, as if something deep within him was changing, awakening. But there was no time to dwell on it. The Rumbar Pirates were falling one by one, their final farewells lingering in the air.
“Yohohoho, yohohoho…” The melody, once sung by many, was now down to a single voice. Brook, the last remaining member, continued to sing, his skeletal fingers trembling as they played the piano. Even in his final moments, he remained steadfast, determined to see the song through to the end.
As Lynn drifted farther away, he saw the crew wave their hands weakly, a final goodbye to the comrade they had protected until the very end. The distance between them grew, and soon, only Brook’s voice carried over the waves.
“In his last breath, Brook’s fingers had no more strength. As he fell towards the piano, a final note echoed across the sea, marking the end of the Rumbar Pirates’ last song.”
The ship, now devoid of life, continued to sail aimlessly across the ocean, a ghostly reminder of the crew’s unwavering bond and their shared dream.
Lynn’s boat drifted silently, the weight of his loss heavy in his heart. The ocean around him was vast and empty, but he wasn’t alone. The memory of the Rumbar Pirates, their laughter, their music, and their sacrifice, would stay with him forever, guiding him as he faced the unknown future.
With a deep breath, Lynn wiped his tears away and looked ahead. The journey wasn’t over, and he knew he had to honor the crew’s legacy by living on, no matter the challenges that lay ahead.
As the sun set on the horizon, the small boat continued its solitary voyage, carrying with it the hopes and dreams of the Rumbar Pirates. And as the night fell, the stars above seemed to sing a lullaby, a quiet echo of the song that had once filled the air with joy and sorrow.
Lynn closed his eyes, letting the melody guide him, knowing that as long as he remembered their song, the Rumbar Pirates would never truly be gone.
