“What kind of person can kill eight Yakuza when they are surrounded by twenty more Yakuza at our age, even when they are by themselves?” Nagisa is shocked by the sudden news. He can’t believe that something like that happened long ago, before his assassination target was even born.
“It’s the dark years, when even those parasites can do what they want, so it’s not really surprising when gangsters die. But when the people in the neighborhood heard the scream, they yelled for help. I’ve heard that it’s so scary that people wouldn’t even leave their rooms. It’s not until the scream stops that they start to fear for their lives, so someone called the police…”
“What did he want so badly that he went into the Yakuza’s den?” Karma asked as he tried to figure out why. He grabbed his other trembling arm and thought about what had happened to the Yakuza.
“Where his sister is… Born into a poor family, all he wanted was a good place where he could spread his wings and pay off the debts his late father owed to the Yakuza. But who would have thought that a bully would cause him to fall into even more debt as he kept getting better grades at that elite school?”
“He didn’t just have to deal with being picked on all the time in that school. Neglect, putting people down, and even racism. It’s funny that those kids think they’re better than Lynn and look down on him, since they tried to make him quit school.”
“But it’s lucky for them that’s all they did, because they didn’t really push him like the one who got hurt and now lives as an idiot because of it.”
“It’s which school?” A Class E student couldn’t help but ask.
“That used to be where Kunugigaoka is now,” the principal, Gakuha Asano, told them as he smiled.
When they heard that, they were shocked and shook with fear.
“Does it have to do with what happened?”
“No, they were hiding all kinds of dirt below. Student prostitution is one of them. Corruption and blackmail are the other two. It makes sense that they would be closed…”
“Something like that is an elite school?”
“What’s even funnier is that Lynn is the one who brought this to light. In a way, it could be his way of getting even, huh?”
At the end, Gakuha laughed and looked at the door.
“I’ve said everything that needs to be said. Now, shouldn’t you be the one to say more about his situation?”
Karasuma scratched the back of his head as he walked into the room. He had come from where the headmaster was looking.
“You forgot to say why he does all that, didn’t you?”
“Then, please let us know why,” Gakuha said with a threatening smile, but as soon as he saw who was behind Karasuma, the smile went away.
“Gakuha-senpai, it’s not cool to talk about people behind his back…”
Lynn said as he moved toward Koro-sensei and grabbed him by the head, pulling him away from the group.
“Mr. Reaper, please come with me to the nurse’s office…”
“Aitatata, be kind to me, doctor…”
When Lynn and Koro-sensei left the room, the other students looked at each other and then at the principal, who was the mysterious doctor’s boss.
“Oh, so you’re the one who asked Master Lynn to help Koro-sensei, huh?” Karasuma said to the principal, who was awkwardly smiling.
“Anyway, Master Lynn gave me permission to talk about what was going on with him. Even though it’s not really a secret, the army doesn’t want people to know that one of their soon-to-be generals used to be in jail when he was younger.”
Then, Karasuma started to talk about Lynn’s time in the army.
“Before I met him, I didn’t really know anything about him. But Master Lynn is a military medic who sought to head to the battlefield wherever there’s a place like that in the mission room. To make a safe place for the soldiers, the survivors, and even the enemies who are already giving up. He’d save everyone…”
“You are still babies and haven’t joined society yet, but most of you already know that the world isn’t all flowers and butterflies. There are people who are scarier than anything you’ve ever seen in a movie, and there are also people who are nicer than you could ever imagine. But no one who goes to war can be sinless because we kill and are killed on the battlefield. Many people died on his operating table, and many others died because of the gun he fired.”
“Well, of course it happened, he’s on a battlefield after all. Isn’t that how warzones always are?” Karma said as if it were a given.
“Sadly, not all of his enemies fell before him. He also killed some allies on the battlefield…”
The students’ faces went from calm to tense and confused in an instant.
“Were they spies?” Nagisa asked.
“Not everyone is, but after this happened a few times, he swore he would never kill anyone else again. So, he started putting them down without killing them. At first, his behavior seemed crazy to us, and he even said as much. After killing so many people, I started to look at life differently. Even my patients started to look like corpses to me. So, to make myself feel better, I’d promise to never kill again. Even in the operating room, I’d do my best to save the people I care for.”
“That’s impossible, right?” Gakuha said as he drank his tea in silence.
“It took him three years to successfully save everyone, no matter who walked into the surgery room. He saved them for sure, but some of them died a few months after his surgery. Still, that’s where he got the name ‘God’s Hand,’ which means ‘the act of extending a person’s life, the God’s Hand.’”
“I see…” Gakuha made a noise.
“Isn’t a few months just a little bit of time?” asked a student.
“It is for a normal person, but for someone who is thought to die in a few days? Do you really think a few months aren’t worth anything?” Karasuma questioned.
The student replied, “If I can’t live longer after that, then they aren’t really worth it.”
“Because you’ve never wanted to live longer. Just imagine if the doctor told you tomorrow was your last day. You’d start to think about how empty your life is. These extra months of life are a gift from God, and you can do whatever you want with them. You could even wait for a miracle that might save your life. Would you still not want those useless few months?”
“Ah… I get it now… but isn’t that just a false hope in the end?”
“So what? People would spend all of their money on that empty hope. Which is why the rich people took care of him, since his mind was always working to save them. Hope will always be there, and they won’t stop giving Master Lynn money for his research.”
“So they turned out to be his cash cow?”
“Yes, Master Lynn is very smart. If he had enough time, he would find a cure for every disease that can’t be cured. But all of that takes time and research, and he hadn’t done all of those things on a human because he still kept his dignity as a sane person. So, people will protect him because it’s in their best interest…”
“Oh, I see. That’s why the killers were killed before they could get close to him…”
“But it’s not like he needed them, since I’ve never beaten him even now. It’s a secret, but Master Lynn is the strongest person I know. I don’t know what will happen if the octopus and Master Lynn fight, but the people above can’t ask him to kill the octopus in the first place because he has sworn to never kill.”
“That’s cool. So he already had the army in the palm of his hand?” Karma is shocked by this, because his dream is to be a politician and be able to run everything from the palm of his hand.
“Well, yeah, in a way.”
“Nurufufufu, your student and senior just told me something interesting.”
“Is that so?” Lynn said without showing any emotion as he continued to cut up Koro-sensei.
“I gave the letter to your sister, but is it alright to just leave it to her like that? She wanted to see you.”
“Well, I could go see her later. There’s no need to hurry up that much.”
“Ah, I see, Nurufufu. I’d like to see someone, too, but I can’t anymore.”
“Oh, I know someone like that as well. You’re lucky to be able to visit their grave, though, because I don’t even know where mine are.”
“Oya? That’s interesting, because I don’t know anything like that. Just what’s the name?”
“His name is Brook, but I’m not really sure if he’s real or not to begin with.”
“Hmmm, I think I’ve heard that name before…”
Koro-sensei scratched his head with one of his tentacles to try to remember the name.
“Can you help me look up the name in the database, Ritsu?” Koro-sensei asked one of his students, Ritsu, an artificial intelligence sent by the country to assassinate him, but who became even better after Koro-sensei’s modification and started learning how to live as a human.
“Okie dokie, Koro-sensei.”
“Hoo, is this the artificial intelligence I’ve heard of?” Lynn said, “This is pretty cool,” as he put the scalpel down and touched the small device next to him.
“Given enough time, Nurufufu, she might be able to do surgery better than you.”
“Hah, that probably won’t happen.” Lynn said as he finished treating Koro-sensei’s insides. “I know you can do it because you’ve learned from me, but there are secrets in my work that not even I understand.”
“Still, it’s pretty amazing that you can heal your body that way, even after I’ve cut it up. It’s exciting…”
Koro-sensei turned pale when Lynn looked at him with a fiery look. He got ready to defend himself and slowly moved away.
“You can play with my body all you want, but you can’t get my heart!”
“Stop that sick thing you’re doing, I’m really disgusted.”
Lynn took a step back and carefully brought one medicine after another to the table.
“You went to school for apothecary?”
“I’ve dealt with drugs, but I’m too lazy to go to college…”
“Wow, that’s really cool!”
Even though he had studied medicine and could be called a professional, Koro-sensei just stared at the sight. He still didn’t know what kind of medicine Lynn took or how much of it was in the mix. Lynn’s way of mixing was an art in and of itself.
“How do you know which one is which? They all look and smell the same. Are you a magician or something?”
“With experience, you can do it yourself if you know the trick.”
“I still need time to understand, even though I’ve turned into this kind of monster. Using my current brain power, it usually only took a few minutes to learn something new from a professional. But I can only tell you the name of one of the drugs you mix…”
“Even seeing their particles you can’t identify them?”
“Man, I know their chemical structure, but those molecules are a mystery to me… Are there herbs or plants that aren’t listed in the book?”
“They all came from a generic medicine.”
“That’s strange. What did you do to them?”
“Some molecular gastronomy. I’ll give you my paper on them later.” Lynn told Koro-sensei, “For now, drink this,” as he handed him a tablet.
“This is cool: a pill case made out of plants.”
Koro-sensei said something incoherent as he gulped down the medicine.
Thump
Not long after he took the drug, his heart started pounding, and pain spread through his body.
